Are naturopathic services covered by OHIP?

Currently OHIP does not cover visits to a naturopathic doctor.

However, many insurance plans will offer partial-full coverage for treatments.

The plan you or your workplace has purchased can vary. Contact your insurance provider with your plan number in order to find out details of your coverage.

Is naturopathic medicine regulated?

Yes - In Ontario, naturopathic doctors are regulated by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). NDs are regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, alongside all other regulated health professions.

For more information about the college please visit CONO

What training is required of naturopathic doctors?

Naturopathic doctors must complete a 4-year bachelor degree with medical prerequisite courses before entering an accredited 4-year naturopathic medicine program.

In addition to completing the naturopathic medicine program, naturopathic doctors must pass two professional licensing exams administered by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners, as well as entry-to-practice examinations that are specific to the naturopathic doctor's place of practice.
