Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday! ☀️ I thought today I would talk about naturopathic medicines guiding principles. These
principles are the foundation of naturopathic medical practice, they guide not only the treatments that we give, but the way that we give them, and why we give them. 💊🍃
. ●
It should be no surprise, that “Primum Non Nocere“ or First, Do No Harm, is
the first principle. Attributed to Hippocrates, all medical students are taught this in school and
it is a fundamental principle throughout the world. Obviously it is important, and it may seem a bit like the bar is set pretty low here… what doctor aims to harm their patient? However, there is
much more to this principle than you may think. 🤔
. ●
First, Do No Harm: this is a commitment to choose the proper treatment that best supports the healing process of the body. Done in the most gentle and effective means possible. To avoid any
potentially detrimental side effects, and avoid the suppression of symptoms. It means to first choose non-invasive diagnostic techniques. It involves teaching patients about how their choices
affect their health.
. ●
This all requires a customized, well-thought out approach to what is going on with YOU. It appreciates, respects, and acknowledges the symptoms you are having, your healing process, and the
disease progression– all to achieve the best strategy to achieve wellness. At times, aggressive treatments are a necessity, but often one can help progress healing by addressing factors such as
nutrition, lifestyle, and stress.

Do no Harm is an important principle of naturopathic medicine as it centers on individuality, vitality, and respect.
